4 Weeks Pregnancy Symptoms & 4 Weeks Pregnant Ultrasound (What To Expect)
Pregnancy Pregnancy symptoms, UltrasoundI’m in a female dominated profession and it’s no surprise that most women guess rightly that they are pregnant because they began to feel a different way. They resort to calling or making enquires to confirm or debunk their suspicions. In 4 weeks pregnancy may be diagnosed by the woman herself through some of the symptoms that would be listed somewhere below and at 4 weeks pregnant ultrasound.
It is necessary that every lady, every woman, every mother, acquaints herself or himself with the signs of pregnancy to be able to seek for an accurate counsel and make timely and proper decisions because there are some events that evokes high emotion in a woman and pregnancy is one of them.
So far, most ladies, especially the first timers or the inexperienced ones wait till the generic symptoms they hear in group discussions and gossips begin to manifest. Symptoms from frequent saliva pooling and spitting to nausea and vomiting. Most times, before these begin to manifest, it’s already late to act if your intention is to hide the pregnancy. With that, below are possible symptoms that could manifest within 4 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP)

ToggleAT 4 WEEKS PREGNANCY SYMPTOMS
Noticeable Early Breast Changes In You
By the third to fourth week after fertilization has occured, you would begin to notice little changes in your breast size. You should begin to suspect pregnancy if you had engaged in coitus at any recent moment relative to when this symptom started to manifest.

The breast adds in size by little or much, It becomes tender and softens and the nipple and areola darkens even more. The diameter of the areola may as well increase. So if you are a husband or boyfriend and you start to notice a sudden deviation from the normal size or features of your woman’s boobs and you could recall quite clearly that you haven’t lain with her. You ought to ask her very serious questions. If you had lain, then rejoice and look forward to things with an optimistic lens…
Well, wait. There is one situation in which this symptom is very unreliable. MULTI GRAVIDA. This is when a woman has become pregnant multiple times wether the child was eventually born or not. The moment after the first pregnancy and several physiological changes had taken place in the body, these changes do not go back to their hundred percent initial, original, perfect state even after the pregnancy has stopped. In essence, the diameter of the areola may not return to original size and the color retains its darkened state.
Amenorrhea
oh well, forgive the jargon but I can’t help not calling it that as a student nurse. It’s an everyday word in my world. Perhaps, you will know it as zero menstrual flow, lack of menstrual flow etc. It is perhaps the most common symptom that triggers ladies to act. Every other symptom might be overlooked but when the menstrual flow cycle is delayed by a day or two, the heart beat rises, its rhythm quickens especially if conception is not intended. However, never arrive at conclusions with this until you go for a double HCG test that returns positive results. Aside pregnancy, your menstrual flow could be delayed or cease as a result of several differentials.
Morning Sickness
Sometimes, I feel like it’s the same reason they call paracetamol, PCM and someone giving up the ghost as ‘parking’ in the hospital and clinical setting, that is the same way they meant morning sickness for nausea and vomiting. Morning sickness in this context is simply nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. The word ‘morning’ in it is misleading as the sick feeling can strike at any time of the day. This is perhaps the most dangerous of all the symptoms here in this article list. Why? How?
One major experience I had during one of my rotations in accident and emergency department was of a young 22-year old lady. She was 4 weeks plus pregnant and was allergic to pungent smell. A neighbor had started to burn her compost bin where she lived and eventually the odour and smoke permeated into her apartment and for a moment it seemed like all hell let loose.
You could imagine the 22-year old nearly throwing up her own guts out from the abdominal cavity judging by the relative’s story. She lost a lot of fluid, her eyes rolled up and the sclera could only be seen before the relatives decided to send her to the hospital. Morning sickness would also include cluster headaches and occasional dizziness.
Presence Of Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin In Your Blood & Urine:
A somewhat controversial one but still one of the most reliable signs in confirming or dismissing pregnancy suspicions. The HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin) is a hormone secreted by the placenta that infiltrates into the bloodstream. Hence, why pregnancy can be detected through a blood test.
Subsequently, the blood is then filtered by the kidney afterwards and the HCG hormone is passed into urine and that’s why most rapid diagnostic pregnancy tests will involve you urinating on the test strip.
Home pregnancy tests involve urinating on a test strip, either by holding the absorbent tip in your urine stream as you pee or by collecting urine in a cup and dipping the strip into it, to detect the pregnancy hormone hCG. The urine flows up the strip, reacting with antibodies to show a line or dot indicating a positive or negative result.

In the first sentence of this HCG symptom I pointed out it’s a bit controversial. You may wonder why… Here is what I found out after three different clinical postings at different primary health centers. Young girls especially report with worsening symptoms of pregnancy after which they have tested themselves and returned negative via urine test. Here is what happened and why they thought they were negative.
Around the 9th -10th day of fertilization occuring the HCG infiltrates the blood stream. However, it takes another 4 days before the HCG reveals itself in urine. Perhaps, this young girl performed a pregnancy urine test on herself on the tenth or eleventh day of fertilization occuring. By this time, the HCG is still only in the blood and has not been filtered by the kidney to produce urine. Hence why her test returned negative. It’s paramount to go ahead and perform a blood test should your urine test return negative result to ensure double confirmation.
4 WEEKS PREGNANT ULTRASOUND
Visualization Of Your Gestational Sac By Transvaginal Ultrasound
At 4 weeks, your uterus is still tucked deep in your pelvis, and the gestational sac is about the size of a poppy seed. A regular abdominal ultrasound won’t pick it up yet. It’s like trying to spot a single grain of rice at the bottom of a deep bowl. That’s why providers use a transvaginal probe. It gets closer to your uterus, giving a clearer image. I’ve seen the relief on patients’ faces when I explain: ‘This isn’t because something’s wrong. It’s because we want the clearest picture of your tiny poppy seed.’
You might ask; how is it done? Well, this is how it is done. The provider will ask you to empty your bladder . Full bladders actually push the uterus further away at this early stage. You will be also asked to undress from the waist down and lie back with a sheet draped over you, knees bent and apart (the ‘lithotomy position) or dorsal recumbent as in during female catheterization or vaginal examination. The sonographer will cover a slender probe with a sterile condom and ky jelly lubricant to reduce friction. And then slowly, he or she begins to insert the probe (wire with a camera) into the vagina.
When this is being done, the sonographer is looking for your gestational sac and yolk sac where the yolk sac is inside the gestational sac. When this is seen by the sonographer, then pregnancy can be confirmed
And there you have it. All these, constitute my at 4 weeks pregnant symptoms and what at 4 weeks pregnant ultrasound feels or seems like
Is Transvaginal Ultrasound The Best Confirmation To Pregnancy? What Are The Differential Diagnosis?
No, a 4-week ultrasound is not the best and most reliable confirmation of pregnancy. It’s actually third in line for diagnostic certainty at this early stage as various reasons could be the cause of a gestational sac been visualized. Why? Visual confirmation is good but limited by timing and at 4 weeks where it can only confirm something is in the uterus· It cannot confirm viability yet (that comes later with fetal pole/heartbeat).
What are the differential diagnosis? Early miscarriage shortly after implantation could cause visualization of sac while another would be collection of fluid in the uterus that mimics a sac. I was once present where a woman was scanned for a sac at 4 weeks. Her HCG was rising strangely. It turned out it was ectopic. The sac was empty because the embryo was in her fallopian tube.. .
How Long Is 4 Weeks Pregnant/How Many Weeks For Pregnant?
Another very common question. You may have heard from many different sources; ‘ At four weeks, this and that happens, at four weeks, all hell will break loose, at four weeks, bla bla bla’. Now, you are tensed or apprehensive and wonder how long is 4 weeks pregnant.
The antepartum period is divided into three trimesters, each consisting of approximately 13 weeks or 3 calendar months. This is from the calculation of pregnancy that is approximately 280 days or 40 weeks from the first day of last menstrual period. Fertilization takes place at the time of ovulation that is approximately 14 days after last menstrual period, this makes actual gestation approximately 266 days or 38 weeks. Adding 14 days gives a total of 280 days from LMP.
Mathematically and using the normal modern calendar, 7 days makes one week. Therefore multiplying 7 days by the 4 weeks will return 28. Thus, it’s been 14 days since fertilization and another prior 14 days since LMP. In essence, 4 weeks lasts 28 days precisely or in other words, one can say they are 1 month pregnant.
