It was dusk and I sat in the front of the balcony chilling until one of two loud girls who seemed to be returning from their weekend staycation shouted to the other girl, “aunty, peeing after sex can prevent pregnancy”. It was quite clear this argument had an origin and an instigator.

Although it sounded off and incorrect to me, I couldn’t be so sure. (Myth or Fact)

Short Answer: Myth. It is a very wrong claim. Peeing after sex cannot prevent pregnancy. If you have been doing this, never continue with it. You probably have been lucky or there’s a more serious underlying condition with you for having not gotten pregnant all these while.

So How Does Peeing Not Prevent Pregnancy?

The female body has three openings below the waist. One is the urethra, the other is the vagina and three is the anus. When you have unprotected vaginal sex with your man and he ejaculates inside you, the semen deposits in the vagina and not in the urethra.

You see, the next time you wanna go pee, bend over, then look and pinpoint where the urine stream is coming from. You will definitely and absolutely see that it’s coming from a tiny, very small hole that can’t even take in or fit a newborn’s penis talk less of taking the one of a full grown man. This tiny hole is called the urethra and it travels deep inside you to connect with your bladder which holds urine.

Odds are you may haven’t have heard of the urethra but you sure have heard of a vagina. Yes, vjay. Whatever you call it where you come from. This is where your partner puts his phallus for the purpose of pleasure or procreation or both because this vjay is sizeable enough, stretches and much more bigger than the urethra. When he thrusts repeatedly and ejaculates eventually, the semen drops in your vagina where the penis is. The semen isn’t going to leave the vagina to relocate to the urethra. No, it never happens.

It’s quite funny how many ladies rush to the bathroom to pee immediately after sex. What is even funnier is when asked what prompted them to do it, most of them give the “my man asked me to” as a response. That goes to show that some guys believe too that peeing after sex can prevent pregnancy. A fallacy.

Let me use this analogy so that you might understand better. Imagine your face as your pelvis. The mouth is the vjay where your partner inserts his stick and the nose is the urethra where urine passes out from. Now, let’s assume that the saliva that bulks up in your mouth is the semen and that the air you breathe out from your nose is the urine. When you try to blow or force out air from your nose, does the saliva come out with it?

I reiterate again, No, peeing after sex cannot prevent pregnancy. When you urinate immediately after sex, you are simply clearing your urethra. The semen on the other is chilling inside your vagina and perhaps traveling to the door of your cervix. So how do you think urinating from the urethra will help kill or clear the semen that is already chilling in your vagina? That’s not possible.

RELATED READ: Home Methods To Prevent Pregnancy Naturally (4 DIY Ways My OIC Taught Me)

But I Have Been Doing This And It Has Been Working…

Oh well. Infact, it is a good practice as this could help reduce your chances of having urinary tract infections (UTI) which is why we recommend it. But you trying to use it as as a means of contraception. Nah.

What Happens If You Don’t Pee After Intercourse

Well, if you have been peeing after sex, stopping it abruptly after reading this post, might seem off, weird and odd to you. I suggest you carry on the practice say it helps clear your urethra and ureter of UTI. However, do not carry on with the practice with the sole aim of preventing pregnancy, as peeing after ejaculation does not prevent conception. It will sure someday backfire.

Unless no semen is ejaculated on the vestibule, urethral opening while your man observes withdrawal method then nothing happens if you don’t pee after intercourse.

Will Peeing After Sex Reduce Pregnancy?

Absolutely Not. If you actually have the intention of getting pregnant and after laying with your man, you felt the urge to pee, never hesitate to do so. Hesitation can cause you more harm than good as overfilled bladder can cause gradual build up of little stones in your kidney. A condition we call renal calculi. In other words, what you might have heard as kidney stones.

Urine passes out through the urethra. A hole that is different from the vagina →womb →fallopian tube where both fertilisation and implantation happens. So, no, peeing after sex cannot reduce your chances of getting pregnant if your intention is to get pregnant.
